"Je ne parle pas Francais"

Today I forgot to put my sim card back into my camera, so while I was taking some sweet pictures I would find out later that it would all be for nothing! It's okay though, there are so many other things to take pictures of! It rained pretty much all day today and we didn't want to sit on the beach so we decided to explore a little of the city. First, we went to a souvenir shop where I bought a watch. There were a lot of cool things in there and a lot of sailor-type decorations that reminded me of my mom for some reason. And then we headed to the boulangerie to buy our first pastry. I got a chocolate eclair and it was amazing!! That was one of the pictures I took without my sim card....I guess I'll just have to get another one so I can take another picture. :) We saw a sign that said museum of Jacques Cartier so we decided to follow it. We made it to what used to be Jacques Cartier's house. He was a native of St. Malo and a great explorer and discovered Canada in 1543. He also opened up the North American continent via the St. Lawrence. Anyways, enough history lessons, it was very beautiful!
Afterwards, we walked to a pharmacy so I could buy some toothpaste. Let's just say I should have looked up toothpaste in the dictionary first. We had to use hand signals so they knew what we were talking about. They chose one for me because, well...I don't know how to speak French. So I think I got some kind of medical toothpaste. But as long as it keeps my teeth clean I guess it's okay.
We headed to the beach to wait for the kids to come back. While they were getting out of there wet suits a man walked up to us and started speaking French. I was like....."Uh...je suis desolee, je ne parle pas Francais." Which is "I'm sorry, I don't speak French." And of course, I totally sounded American. But even after I said that, he kept speaking French to us and I had no idea what he was saying. Luckily, Aymeric came to the rescue. He started talking to the man and it turned out he was selling pictures of the kids sailing. Good thing Aymeric came along because I had already said what I knew how to say in French. Moments like those really make me wish I knew French already, but at the same time I find it very humorous. I also feel bad for Annalise's two girls because I try to talk to them but they don't understand. But most of the time they just laugh and make fun of our accents. But I don't mind because I laugh at myself too. I think the hardest time I have not being able to speak French is at dinnertime when everyone around you is speaking French and you have no idea what they are saying but you want to be able to join in on the conversations. All in good time I guess.....

Oh no I am so sorry about the sim card. That is the worst. I guess you will just have to go back to all those same places again. I give you props for going over there and trying to learn French. That is awesome. You are going to get it down in no time!!
